1 Samuel 22:6-23

Saul ordered the execution of God’s priests at Nob because of David’s interaction with Ahimelech the priest. He destroyed their city and left it in ruin which negated the precepts of God in Deuteronomy 13:12-17, where God only instructed such punishment on cities involved in idolatry and rebellion against Him. This attitude illustrates Saul’s complete disregard and hardheartedness against God as he was not afraid to destroy the Lord’s priests or consider the consequences of his actions.

The lesson is that it is only a Spirit-led life that will cherish God’s precepts whereas the flesh-inspired life will always cater to ephemeral things. Saul did not think twice before he exterminated God’s priest but he performed God’s instruction haphazardly in the land of Amalek. Do you know that it is not the end of the world if you lose your money or other material things because they easily can be recouped, but anyone who loses the Holy Spirit is spiritually dead. David knew the importance of being led by the Holy Spirit hence he pleaded with God not to take the Holy Spirit from him. Also, John reiterated the importance of the Holy Spirit. He declares that those that are led by the Holy Spirit are the children of God. The question is: are you a child of God? Before you answer, check whether the Holy Spirit resides with or within you.
